Wino Wednesday – Baron de la Variere Anjou

27 Oct

Remember last week when D mentioned he would have liked to open the champagne with a sword?  I sternly said no, stating that we have a damage deposit to worry about…well, I would rather be cleaning up sprays of champagne than a spilled glass of red, oops…not naming names though.

You might also be wondering about the boot…well, I hope you are because otherwise it’s a bit of an odd photo – bottle for French wine and wellie, hmm.  Anywho, I was less than enthusiastic about taking a picture tonight and figured I could show off my new Marc Jacobs wellies and our feature bottle.  That’s all.

Wine: Baron de la Variere Anjou

Where’d we buy it:  Carrefour, as per usual.  When you have a large amount of groceries, jumbo size box of diapers AND wine to purchase, it’s just so much easier to buy all in on place.  One of these days we will class up and go to the wine store, yes, the one right around the corner from us.

How much did it cost: $4.18 – bit of a splurge bottle but again, cart full of groceries, massive cardboard box, anxious baby, you get the point.  Oh and it had 2 things D looks for in a good bottle, embossed label AND a gold medal for something, who knows what this time.

Why did we pick it: It had 2 things D looks for in a good bottle, embossed label AND a gold medal for something, who knows what this time.

Was it good: It was ok but I think I was far more worried about getting the wine out of the white curtains than how tasty it was.  I would say it’s one of our middle range wines as far as taste goes.  Nothing notable, just a decent glass to end a less than hectic October day in Paris.
