Last summer I was fortunate enough to sit at Trocadero, just across from the Eiffel Tower and watch the World Cup live on a big screen TV with soccer fans from all over the world. One year later I found myself on the Champs de Mars by the Eiffel tower watching live action soccer, this time, it was the Homeless World Cup.
The Homeless World Cup features male and female teams from 64 countries who come and play a fast paced 4 on 4 soccer on mini fields with boards along the sides. The games are generally high scoring and non-stop action. The tournament serves to bring light to the issues of homelessness and helps it’s participants put their lives back together.
I watched 3 games in a row (they are only 15 minutes long), and was very impressed with the skill level. Palestine vs. Argentina was quite exciting, with Palestine drubbing Argentina quite soundly. Over 20 goals were scored by both teams in this game!
